Support the IMF Resident Representative office in Amman under the Head of Office’s general guidance and Office Manager’s supervision, organising workflow and office systems. The assistant may supervise support colleagues and cover absences and peak workloads.
One-year local contractual appointment, potentially renewed for successive terms of up to three years subject to continuing need and satisfactory performance. Preferred start: 1 December 2026 or earlier.
Applicants must be Jordanian nationals or residents, or independently obtain valid work authorisation before starting. Proof of nationality, residence and/or work permission is required. The IMF does not sponsor or assist with work permits.
Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive office support, maintain the Head of Office and economists’ calendars, coordinate workflow and ensure timely, high-quality outputs.
Mentor, train and supervise support staff and resolve conflicts as appropriate; contribute to staffing plans and performance management, and support recruitment, contracts and salary matters.
Monitor work programmes and budgets; process and follow up consultant contracts, travel and payments, and prepare budget information for quarterly reviews.
Research IMF systems, databases and internet sources and maintain institutional filing systems and databases.
Arrange conferences, workshops, document reviews, meetings and visiting missions, including schedules, travel and drivers; interpret and coordinate domestic and international travel rules.
Troubleshoot basic hardware and operating-system issues, including printers, modems, cabling, directories, server connections and virus checks, and facilitate office technology information exchange.
Maintain contacts with government, donors, civil society, academia, business, media, headquarters and other offices; work with communications colleagues on the country website.
Provide information and logistical support for senior-level contacts; review news, releases, newsletters and media material about IMF work and policies and flag relevant information to the Head of Office and economists.
Connect management and staff, perform related ad-hoc duties and provide backup cover when needed.
Qualifications and skills
Completed bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant experience. Business administration training or experience spanning basic finance/accounting, HR, audit, administration or related fields is desirable.
Administrative planning, organisation, problem-solving, personnel management, decision-making and time-management abilities; follow team priorities and respond to information requests.
High-quality work under pressure, close attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks within agreed deadlines.
Thorough Microsoft Office knowledge and experience, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word; clear, constructive spoken and written communication.
Fluent written and spoken Arabic is required, and English proficiency is essential.
