Job description

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing is recruiting a Materials Engineer in its Laboratories and Quality Control Administration on an annual, full-time contract. The role monitors testing of construction materials, verifies the accuracy of results and compliance with technical standards, and produces reliable reports to support project quality.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise work in laboratory testing rooms and ensure compliance with approved procedures and instructions.
  • Monitor laboratory tests against approved technical instructions and standards.
  • Maintain accuracy and transparency in testing and protect confidential information and results.
  • Prepare laboratory reports and check their data and results before approval.
  • Participate in practical training for materials engineers, laboratory technicians, graduate engineers and university students.
  • Monitor equipment and tool calibration, readiness and performance in testing sections.
  • Sample raw materials and Superpave mixtures under approved technical procedures.
  • Contribute to theoretical training in the administration's courses and workshops.
  • Help supervise joint tests with private laboratories to verify results and compliance.
  • Participate in inspection and audit committees for private and site laboratories.
  • Carry out other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications and eligibility

  • A bachelor's degree in the Civil Engineering Division, Materials Engineering Department.
  • At least five years of relevant practical experience.
  • Membership of the Jordan Engineers Association.
  • The announcement is for male applicants born on or after 1 January 1995.

Required competencies

Intermediate technical competencies cover computer and Office skills; coordinating priorities and planning within time, cost and specification requirements; operating and maintaining testing equipment and verifying calibration; applying national and international standards and material acceptance limits; analysing deviations and the validity of results; preparing and documenting reports; and transferring knowledge through theoretical and practical training. The role requires a high level of creativity, inference, analysis, linking information, recall and direct application.

Work scope and conditions

Contacts include the public, colleagues, other ministry units and government departments to exchange information, coordinate tasks, explain procedures and resolve problems. Work is varied, involves multiple interrelated steps and supports other teams; errors can affect work beyond the unit.

The job description allocates physical activity to sitting (35%), standing (35%) and moving around (30%). Working conditions include normal office settings and mild noise, as well as moderately unusual conditions, grease and oils, heat, odours and gases.
