The West Asia–North Africa Institute began in 2009 as the WANA Forum and was relaunched as an institute in 2014. Based in Amman, it is a nonprofit policy think tank chaired by His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal.
Its main fields are social justice, sustainable development and human security. It conducts interdisciplinary research, holds conferences and training workshops and creates dialogue among researchers, policymakers, civil society and business.
The institute works to translate knowledge and evidence into policies and programmes addressing regional development and humanitarian challenges. It also builds knowledge networks and communities of practice and strengthens the use of research in decision-making. Its office is in Jubeiha, Amman.
